Cryotherapy Aftercare

This page summarizes the guidance you received during your visit. Please refer to it during your recovery after treatment.

Warts often require five or more treatment sessions on average, and repeated treatment is needed until they are fully cleared.
Although this method leaves less scarring than other treatments, scars may remain at the treated site after multiple sessions.
However, if warts are left untreated, they can actually increase in number and size, so it is best to have them treated.

  • 1)If you were also prescribed a topical medication (Verrumal), apply it to the lesion once a day. However, stop using it for 2 days before and after each treatment.
  • 2)When the treatment works well, a blister forms at the treated site, and depending on the individual, you may feel significant pain.On the soles of the feet in particular, walking may become difficult. However, this reaction is a sign that the treatment worked well, and it usually subsides within 7 days, so there is no need to worry too much.If the pain is severe or the blister grows very large, it is best to visit the clinic to receive any needed medication and care such as wound disinfection.(The size and extent of blistering vary greatly with each person's skin type, so it is difficult to adjust in advance.)
  • 3)When a large blister forms, the wart is usually cleared in a single session, but in the opposite case the treatment may be less effective. It is therefore best to visit the clinic within a week of treatment to have the result checked.
  • 4)It is fine to wash or shower the treated area. However, if a blister bursts, disinfect the area with an antiseptic and keep it dry until it stops oozing.
  • 5)About a week after blistering, the treated area may turn dark or harden like a scab.At this stage no further disinfection is needed, and it is best not to pick off the scab deliberately. After 2–3 weeks the scab falls off on its own, and the wart or corn comes off with it.If a root still remains visible at the base after it falls off, the treatment above is repeated until fully cleared.
  • 6)In rare cases, a sebaceous cyst may accompany the wart underneath, or — especially in middle age and beyond — the lesion may be a wart-like skin cancer. If there is no response after multiple treatments or the lesion grows abnormally, a biopsy may be needed later.
